Dorothy Francis Akers, 91, passed away Saturday, April 10th, 2021, At Jennings Terrace in Aurora, IL. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother Dorothy was born on October 19, 1929 in Nashville, Tennessee to Glenn and Catherine Curd. One of five children, she is survived by her sister, Evelyn Pilkinton in Franklin, Tennessee. On January 5, 1951, she married Tom Akers in Washington DC. They settled in Moline, Illinois where they raised five children, all of which survive her death, Tom Akers Jr., Alan Akers, Glenda Akers, Karen Jordan and Jim Akers. She loved her job as an admin in the Import/Export division at John Deere from which she retired after 25 years. In retirement, she and Tom moved to Harlingen, Texas for several years, then Tyler, Texas. In 2005, after 54 years of marriage, Tom passed away and she returned to Moline, Illinois. Dorothy had a passion for gardening, crossword puzzles, bright colored scarves, anything Elvis and her grandchildren; Melissa Enos, Mindy Eckel, Michael Akers, Nate Jordan, Matt Jordan, Jaime Payne and Adam Akers. She is also survived by five great grandchildren. Dorothy was much loved by her family and will be missed! A celebration of Dorothy’s life will take place at a later date.
